Advocacy on Issues that Affect Your Practice
Amicus
WACDL files amicus briefs in cases of interest to the defense bar.
Criminal Justice Policy
WACDL often appoints defense bar representatives to criminal justice related task forces and commissions that address issues of concern to members. In addition, many of our committees address policy issues, especially our Criminal Records & Restoration of Rights, Court Rules, Legislative and Public Defense committees.
Public Policy Representation
WACDL is active in representing defense bar concerns before the Washington State Legislature. The Legislative Committee recommends priority issues (which are presented to the board), and determines legislative policy.
Leadership Opportunities
Your participation in WACDL committees and task forces provides you the opportunity to change the laws and policies affecting criminal defense practice – and to build relationships with defense lawyers and policy makers in the legal community. Please contact us if you are interested in joining a committee or getting involved.
