Lacaze v. Louisiana, #17-1566

Petition for certiorari to US Supreme Court requesting clarification on the standards to be used by courts when addressing whether a defendant has been denied an impartial jury.

WACDL's death penalty committee agreed to join numerous associations of criminal defense lawyers on an amicus brief requesting the Court to resolve conflicts among the circuits as to whether a criminal defendant has been denied his or her right to an impartial jury based upon an interpretation of the issue in a civil case involving personal injury in McDonough Power Equip., Inc. v. Greenwood, 464 U.S. 548 (1984).  Or should greater protections apply to criminal defendants on this issue due to recognized increased procedural constitutional protections in the criminal context.
