Learn about the four types of sexual offense clients and how to approach The Admitter, The Conceder, the Denier and the Righteous, and learn how to speak to them in your efforts to represent them on the toughest fight of their lives. Amy and Brad will talk about communication strategies, directed questioning, listening, and plain old confrontation as they walk you through the process of establishing rapport, gaining trust and being direct with your sex offense clients.

Amy Muth is a Seattle-based criminal defense attorney whose practice has focused on representing people accused of sexual assault for over fifteen years (including working with Brad). She is a WACDL Past President and the recipient of the President’s Award from both WACDL and WDA. She also serves on the Legal Committee for ACLU-WA. Amy frequently writes amicus briefs for WACDL, WDA, and ACLU-WA for appellate cases involving sex offense defense issues. She is a 1997 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and a 2001 graduate of Ohio State University College of Law.

Brad Meryhew is an attorney in private practice in Seattle whose practice focuses on representing those accused of sexual misconduct in state and federal courts in Washington State.  He began his legal career as a public defender in King County handling misdemeanor and felony trials, with a focus on sexual offenses. He has worked exclusively with clients charged with sex offenses since 2003. Brad is a 1994 graduate of the University of Puget Sound School of Law and a 1980 graduate of the University of Utah.  Brad has represented the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Washington Defender Association on the Washington Sex Offender Policy Board since its inception in 2008, and has chaired the Board for the last three years.
