Governor Signs Fair Chance Act

HB 1298, which prohibits employers from asking about arrests or convictions before an applicant is determined otherwise qualified for a position, was signed on March 13.

We were thrilled to join the Governor today when he signed HB 1298.  WACDL's Criminal Records and Restoration of Rights Committee, chaired by Mark Muenster and Nancy Talner, has been working on this bill for three years (and on the issue for much longer).  We worked closely with a number of organizations to form the Washington Fair Chance Coalition, and to pass the bill.  Thank you to everyone who joined us in this effort!
